Want romance books for adults? You will absolutely love this spicy and high-stakes book that’s all over booktok!
Synopsis
In this book, we’re following Oraya, a human rescued by a vampire leader when she was young. Growing up she’s always had to be cautious about the predators around her, so her adopted father taught her how to defend herself. Despite feeling strong, she’s constantly reminded of her humanity and wishes that could change.
Humans can be Turned but 2 out of 3 turnings end in death and her father did not want to risk it. Oraya’s other option is to join the Kejari, a tournament to honor the goddess Nyaxia. Only one can win and the victor will be granted a wish. In this tournament, vampires of all houses join, even their rivals the Rishan.
As Oraya goes through the tournament she has no choice but to ally with an enemy to survive. Meanwhile, her father is fighting to keep the Rishan from taking over his kingdom. But Oraya’s new love will cause everything she’s known to fall.
My thoughts
I saw this book all over tiktok so I had to check it out and I can confirm that it does live up to the hype! I could not stop reading that I finished this in two days. It even had me crying at one point. I was so invested in this story and in these characters that I can’t wait for the next book to see what happens next.
To me, this story stands out because it’s not your typical enemies-to-lovers. Normally the MMC is seen as the protector and more powerful but in this book, I feel like they are both on the same level. I feel their chemistry and I like that they can relate to each other.
Snippet
And it was there, in his eyes, that I found the truth that should’ve broken me. Yes, we could kill each other here. We were offering ourselves to each other. But neither of us would.
“Are you going to kill me, Oraya?” I didn’t run. Didn’t move. Instead, I lay my palm flat against his chest. I surprised even myself when I replied, “Not tonight.”
