Are you dying to find a good shapeshifter book series? Because this one has everything you need: dragons, wolves, and demons! No need to look any further!
Synopsis
This series is about a girl named Finley who lives in a forgotten village that has been cursed. The villagers are slowly dying and the curse puts a damper on their shapeshifting abilities. No one knows what their animal is. But Finely has come up with a nulling elixir using a special plant from the Forbidden Wood that delays untimely deaths.
There’s a dangerous beast that’s been guarding the woods, and Finley risks her life by going there. One day while in the woods, she feels this strong presence that makes her think a strong incubus is nearby. She drops her dagger and rushes home, but that night the beast visits and returns her dagger.
Finely runs out of the house to lure the beast away from her family, and the beast gives her no choice but to go with him to his castle. He locks her up in a room, and this is where Finley starts to learn about what she’s capable of and even finds love in the first book.
My thoughts
I really enjoyed this story! I like the beauty and the beast vibes and the real steamy romance; this is an adult fantasy for sure. The character development is great and the author doesn’t miss a detail.
The first two books are told from Finley’s perspective, but the third one has multiple POVs. By the end of the second book I was tearing up a bit, so it pulled on my heartstrings. Nyfain is kind of a dream to be honest.
I just hope there is a spinoff about Hannon. Finley mentions how Hannon has always wanted to find a mate so it would be nice to know his journey on finding a mate and mastering his animal. Other than that, I’m happy with how the series ends!
Snippet
If the demon king came, I needed to barter for as many lives as I could, using the thing I had always shrugged off, my beauty. I might not change the stars and keep the heart of my prince, but I could damn well keep this kingdom alive. Some of it, at least.
